SCOOL was founded to provide quality education in sustainable and organic agricultural practices in South Carolina. Our first event was the SC Organic Growing Conference in March of 2012. At that point, our state did not have an annual organic conference. Georgia has Georgia Organics; North Carolina has the NC Organic Growers School; and now, we have the SC Organic Growing Conference!
In 2012 SCOOL also partnered with Gardening for Good to present their first Community Gardening Symposium in Greenville, SC. We will be hosting and partnering on more events in 2013, to be announced later this year.
In addition to the educational events, we also have a small-scale organic farmsite. Much of what we grow is dry farmed; those areas receive no supplemental irrigation. Among the vegetables that have performed well with that method are Sea Island Red Peas, Choppee Okra, Dixie Butterpeas, kale, collards, radishes, onions and a variety of other braising and salad greens. We hope to expand our farming operations in 2014.
We heard your request for a more central conference location and moved our 2013 SC Organic Growing Conference to Columbia! Registration is now open at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/318442.
This year, we've added many new instructors and classes, including Organic Dry Farming, Running a Successful CSA, and Mob Grazing. See our 2013 Conference page for more information.
